Storage and Reference services

Library materials, as well as bibliographic and reference information, are available to all adult citizens who become members and accept the rules of the Matica Srpska Library. Foreign citizens living in this country, studying or doing scientific research, can also become members of the Library.

Library materials are used in the following reading rooms: General Reading Room, Periodicals and Research Reading Room, Science Reading Room, Rarities Reading Room, Reference Centre Reading Room, Special Collections Reading Room, and Professional Literature Reading Room. All reading rooms together offer 200 seats for users. Each reading room has its reference collection of bibliographies, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and general and special handbooks. The Library has 5,000 new members annually and they use about 40,000 publications.

The Library users can find the titles they need by searching electronic and card catalogues of books, periodicals, special collections, and electronic publications. More complex retrievals are done by reference librarians, who also prepare bibliographic printouts from the electronic database upon the requests of users.

Reservation of publications (up to five) can be done at the reference desk in the Department of Storage and Reference Services or electronically (in the Library or from home). Ordered publications can be used for a month. Users of the Science Reading Room can order up to ten publications and use them for three months. 

My Library service provides users with insight into the number of reserved and borrowed materials, as well as into the expiration dates of reservation and membership. Every user with a valid membership card has access to the list of materials that he/she borrowed during the last five years. 

This Department borrows books and copies from other libraries. The Library has a service for photocopying parts of publications, according to Regulations for the Use of Library Materials and Copyright Law.  

The Library offers free wireless access (Wi-Fi) in public areas. 

The reading and working rooms have air-conditioning and modern equipment, thus offering good working conditions.
